At first I felt great, but after a while I started sleeping less ...
I'd strongly urge anyone that's considering taking a standalone vitamin D supplement to start with 1,000 IU a day and work your way up to the right dosage using the 1,000 IU softgels. My doctor urged me to take 10k IU a day about a year ago. At first I felt great, but after a while I started sleeping less and less. I stopped taking 10k a day and started taking 1k a day, then 2k a day, then 3k a day. The sleep problems started to manifest again after 3-4 days at 3k a day, so I stepped back to 2k a day. I've found that this dosage works really well for me, so I'll be sticking with it going forward.

As for this particular supplement, I'd highly recommend it. It's great, and I feel a lot better on it.

FANTASTIC - wish I had known years ago what Vit D could do at the right levels
Used to take one of these a day and didn't really notice anything. It was suggested to me that I try 5000 IU a day so I started taking 5 of these every morning until the bottle ran out. NEVER has a vitamin had such a big impact on my mood. My mood is SIGNIFICANTLY elevated. It has actually changed my life as corny as that sounds. I'm getting a lot more done because I have more energy and people seem to like being around me more now that I'm not so mopey haha! This was the missing piece in my nutrition.

Working well after some trial and error
My Vitamin D was low when I was tested several years ago, so I started taking this brand of Vitamin D based on the recommendation of a doctor who prefers Vitamin D3 suspended in oil. I took 2,000-4,000 IU per day, as advised, and was very disappointed when my serum level did not change at all. Frustrated, I wrote a negative review of this product.

Well, as it turns out, the product was not at fault. The 2,000-4,000 IU per day that was recommended to me was simply not enough. I decided to increase my dose to 6,000 IU/day, and this did eventually raise my level to optimal. When I continued at that dose, my level ended up going too high! For me, the correct maintenance dose seems to be 4,000-5000 IU/day.

Based on this, I have amended my rating. This product does seem to work, but it may take time to find the right dose. I like the fact that this product does not contain a lot of the garbage additives that are in so many other supplements. And the Subscribe and Save price here on Amazon is hard to beat.

Not independently certified to contain the advertised ingredients
Like every other Now Foods supplement I've ordered, it does not have a United States Pharmacopoeia (USP), NSF International (NSF), or ConsumerLab.com (CL) seal, so as a consumer I have no easy way to tell if it contains whether it contains the amount it claims to have, or whether it contains any harmful ingredients such as lead. On average most supplements tested do contain the advertised ingredients in the expected doses, and do not contain harmful ingredients. However a significant fraction (more than 10%) of brands fail these tests, so I've learned to look for USP/NSF/CL certification to be as sure as I reasonably can be, short of sending the pills off to a lab myself.

Good vitamins
The price is right and my blood tests show vitamin D being absorbed. These D's do not contain vitamin A. My endocrinologist tells me vitamin A (derived from fish oil) is detrimental to absorption of vitamin D necessary for bone health.
