This may be just what I've been looking for!!
I've been taking L-Tryptopan Powder for a few days now - the first night I took it (1tsp.) I felt very anxious - yikes - that wasn't good! I cut back the next night to 1/2 tsp. - better - but still woke up after 5+ hrs. and couldn't get back to sleep. Last night I took about 3/4 tsp. - got "8" hours!! That could have been that I found the right amount - was so totally exhausted that a train going by 10 feet outside my window wouldn't have awakened me - OR - it's working!!! I really hate having a time limit on my reviews - though I do understand why. I'm usually good with reviews because I read everything I can get my hands on before buying something, Don't know if this was much help - not going to promise but I will try to update this in a few weeks....yea - I know - everyone says that...thats why I said I wouldn't promise.
I actually came back to give a update!! I raised my rating to a 5 star!! I have been sleeping like a baby for over a week...minus the "hot flashes" :( I'm also back to do a bit more reading about this stuff - hopefully I will eventually cut back to 1/2 tsp. and that will also work?? I believe it took a week till I felt it was working.
It's so worth the try if you have been sleep deprived like I have been for years. I can tell how much better of a mood I'm in besides not so tired as evening sets in.
Hope this helps someone!
OK - So I'm back again...by now you think I have nothing better to do than to review products!!! Well - I read so many helpful reviews on different things that I want to help "pay back". The most frequent thing you read on here is about the horrible taste which I totally agree with - BUT - you might try a good sized spoon of a flavored yogurt and mix the tryptophan into it....works like a charm. You can thank my husband for that!!! I think he got tired of hearing me go "EWEeee - eweee - eweeeeee"!

I feel more calm with this supplement
I have been taking L-Tryptophan powder for 2 weeks now, and I can definitely tell a difference in my mood. I feel calmer and more relaxed, and I usually have a lot of anxiety. I feel less obsessive-compulsive tendencies and experience less emotional eating as well (which might be because I'm taking a B-vitamin complex and getting nutrients I was lacking). I am experiencing more insomnia the past week, though, which this product is supposed to remedy. I have changed a few other things in my diet and supplements, so I'm not sure what is causing it.

I used to take 5-HTP capsules (100 mg. per day), but I read that long term use of 5-HTP isn't recommended, so I switched to L-Tryptophan instead, which is the precursor amino acid to 5-HTP (which then produces serotonin). I take 1/2 tsp. morning and night, and I recently added a dose midday, so I take about 1.6 grams everyday.

I like BulkSupplements because they provide a pure product without any fillers and I can adjust the dose. I like the resealable bag as well, although this specific product is very fine and powdery, so I transferred it to a pint-sized Mason jar for ease of use.

This is the most bitter of the powders I take, although Rhodiola is pretty bitter, too (in addition to L-Tryptophan, I take N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine, L-Glutamine, and Rhodiola Rosea from this company).

It is also hard to mix in water because it is so powdery. Still, with the amount I'm taking, I'd have to take a few capsules a day, and I would also be getting fillers, so I prefer the powder despite the taste. I eat a xylitol mint as soon as I'm finished taking the powder in a little water, or I mix it with stevia or molasses in my morning tonic which has a whole cocktail of interesting substances for digestive and general health.

I used to take St. John's Wort, as well, but I replaced it with Holy Basil. I was given medication for depression for over a decade in my late teens and 20s, and it never worked as well as the lifestyle changes I've made and the amino acids and herbs I'm taking. I've learned that the gut is responsible for a lot of mood neurotransmitters and immune system functions, so I'm healing my intestines and finding my mood is improving (as well as my immune system).

Other helpful support for immune system, hormones, mood, thyroid, and gut (it took me over a year of research and trial and error to discover all of these healing tools, so I will list them for anyone who is interested in researching them): cod liver oil, bovine colostrum, probiotics (capsules and fermented vegetables), systemic enzymes, digestive enzymes, digestive bitters, magnesium powder (only thing that helped my constipation besides senna, which is too harsh for everyday use), buffered vitamin C powder, a B vitamin complex, milk kefir, apple cider vinegar, coconut oil, cilantro & parsley (for metal detox), almonds, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, raw onion, garlic, lemon juice, ground flax seeds, chia seeds, gelatin (Great Lakes powder and homemade bone broths), slippery elm powder, maca powder, ginger, and turmeric.

For a sluggish thyroid, I also take a vitamin thyroid support with selenium and zinc (from Pure Encapsulations), and large doses of B-1 and B-12. Also, organ meats and lots of green leafy vegetables, grass-fed raw dairy, and very little grains and beans (due to sensitivities, I rarely eat gluten, peanuts, corn, refined sugar, baking yeast, flour, eggs, or soy).

"NOT" L-TRYPTOPHAN "DO NOT BUY"
Dear friends, I have been using this Product since 2018 because I have had a sleeping disorder from youth. Came across a medical journal which put this Amino Acid at the top of the list as a sleep aid boosting natural melatonin production in the brain. Was a life changer as prior to this I was using prescription medication which lead to other complications and mediocre sleep. L-Tryptophan comes in a white light powder similar in appearance to white flour, and difficult to dissolve in water or juice. Not till I spent the whole night tossing and turning did my wife notice a difference in the appearance and texture of the product, I have attached a photo for other buyers to see. Now it has the appearance of "bakers yeast" little beads and does not dissolve at all. Friends... the question is "What Are We Drinking"? And why would this company go and change a good thing that was working well and sell us something that does not work at all? Maximize Profit? Whatever the case may be I do not know what I am consuming, It does not work and I work hard for my money and so do all the rest of us. I wrote this review to make consumers aware that this product has changed and it may even be harmful since we do not know what it is.

Very convenient. Excellent quality.
Got this today.

Glad to have found a bulk version because I want to take a small amount in a smoothie during the day to help with anxiety without dealing with capsules. The 500mg capsules knock me out. I'm only using less than a quarter teaspoon.

The powder is very fine and will come out some when you open it. It's like confectioner's sugar but even lighter.

So far, very happy with the convenience. If it works for the reason I bought it for, I'll update my review.

Update: I've used this a few times so far and it's the real deal. If I use a quarter teaspoon it makes me sleepy. When I use less than that I am more relaxed in the evenings when I need the most help with anxiety.

Very happy with this purchase and it has helped my late day anxiety a lot. I'm also falling to sleep faster.

Purchased for anxiety
I've only been taking the L tryptophan for a little over a week so this is not a review based on long term use. However, based off of how this supplement helped me thus far, I plan on adding it to my daily vitamin/ supplement regimen. (Disclaimer: I am not a doctor so I will not be providing any medical advice, I am just sharing my experience in hopes of helping the next person who is struggling with extreme anxiety). To start off, I've had anxiety for years but they were very mild symptoms that only arise when under a lot of stress, and it was just the feeling of being anxious. But on March 9, 2018 i was experiencing extreme anxiety and panic attacks. I've never experienced this in my life so I was terrified and didn't know what to do, I felt every single symptom that is possible with anxiety and panic attacks (Google the symptoms if you are curious). I began doing some research in depth because my symptoms were not going away and I knew i needed something to help reduce my symptoms and I wanted to go the natural route instead of prescribed drugs which do not resolve the actual underlying issue. And that's when I came across L-tryptophan. I was hesitant to try it but desperate at the same time because at this point my anxiety and panic attacks were occurring for 20 straight days and my body was extremely exhausted from the fight or flight responses and lack of sleep. I also started to experience derealization so any and everything was 10x worse. Although I was afraid to take tryptophan, I started on a very very very low dose (1/32 teaspoon every 4-6 hours) because I didn't want to feel too relaxed (reason being is because it already felt like I was free floating and extremely light, I tried magnesium and St Johns Wort and they relaxed me too much and caused me to have an anxiety/panic attack). I believe since my body was already exhausted, relaxing supplements such as those was not the best fit at that exact moment but I will implement magnesium into my diet slow and steady. I must say that tryptophan have helped me drastically. My symptoms are going away slowly but surely. I'm beginning to feel normal and well balanced, but I do experience some anxiety from time to time. But it's no where near what I was experiencing for those 20 straight days. It's more like i get the thoughts of anxiety, but not the full blown symptoms. And if i feel the symptoms coming i relax and take L-tryptophan. Other things that I have also done which play a major part in the reducing of my symptoms were 30 min walks, eating 3 meals a day, getting proper sleep and mediating in my bible. I'm sure those definitely helps but I am sure that the L tryptophan played a major part in it. One thing I was curious about when reading other people reviews was how it make you feel when taking it. The only symptom I experienced was a sense of relaxation in my mind, not my body (which was great because I didn't want anything to effect me below my shoulders. I didn't experience any rapid heart beating, or lucid dreams, nor any difficulty breathing or drowsiness. I would highly suggest l tryptophan, it's worth it in my opinion. Do your research, learn as much as possible, talk to your doctor and make your decision based on your own opinion.

BE AWARE!!!
I purchased so many supplements over the years from Bulk Supplements. I had ordered previously l tryptophan as well and worked well. So I reordered and I have received something else than the tryptophan. It's usually fine white powder that doesn't dissolve in water well and tastes very bitter. This thing I received from them was the small grain-like texture, grey-looking stuff without any taste. I was afraid to take a single serving. Do they even test their every supplement they they receive from their suppliers (from China most likely) before even selling it to us? I wish i could give this to a lab to test it. It's definitely not l tryptophan. It almost looked like some kind of constriction material. Be aware.
