protip: lasts us over a month

I use scissors to cut these in thirds and they're perfect for my 9 year old. This package lasts my son over a month now. nothing works as fast, especially on our trip to the west coast. I've never traveling without these again

For older kids

Choking hazard. Not sure if they work on kids but they don't work on adults.

high dosage

On the one hand, I appreciate the convenience and novelty of these melatonin strips. The idea of a minty, dissolvable strip that contains melatonin is certainly unique and interesting, and I can see how it might be appealing to parents who struggle to get their children to take traditional supplements or medications.

The mint flavor of the strips is also quite pleasant, and they dissolve quickly in the mouth without leaving any residue or aftertaste. This makes them easy to administer, even to young children who might not be able to swallow pills or capsules.

However, I do have some reservations about this product. For one thing, the dosage of melatonin in each strip (1.5mg) seems quite high for children, especially considering that the American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends a maximum dose of 0.5mg for children under the age of 5. While melatonin is generally considered safe, there have been concerns about its effects on developing brains, and I would be hesitant to give my child a higher dose than is recommended by experts.

Additionally, I worry that these candy strips might reinforce the idea that medication or supplements should be "fun" or "tasty," which could lead to a dangerous mindset in children who might be tempted to experiment with other types of pills or substances. While I understand the appeal of making a supplement more palatable, I'm not sure that candy strips are the best way to do so.

Overall, while I appreciate the novelty and convenience of the POP Supplements Kids Melatonin Mint Candy Strips, I would approach them with caution and only use them under the guidance of a pediatrician or sleep specialist. The high dosage of melatonin and the potential for harmful messaging about medication and supplements give me pause.

Breath freshener strips, but with melatonin

These are heavily reminiscent of breath freshener strips I’ve used in the past, to the point that I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between the two in a head-to-head comparison, at least with respect to flavor. That’s not a criticism of the product, just an observation. So if your kids tolerate breath freshener strips, they’ll tolerate these as well.

As for whether they work, they certainly do. Although I can’t measure potency directly, I’ve been very gradually cutting back on my melatonin dosage over the past year or so, and they seem about right for 1.5mg. That’s a decent dose for a kid, although half that might be more appropriate, especially for younger kids. Incidentally, cutting the strips down with scissors is both possible and easy.

Finally, just to be clear, you do actually have to swallow the strip after it dissolves, which some people don’t do with the breath freshener strips. The melatonin could also be partly dosed sublingually by holding the dissolved liquid under the tongue for a few minutes beforehand, but not all parents or kids will be able to handle this.

VERY strongly flavored

The flavor these have is something I can actually enjoy, but it's far, far stronger than most children I know will tolerate. That would be fine, and they would make a nice adult product, instead (for those of us who like overly strong mint), but the dosage is so small (logically enough; kid-dosage) that it takes 3-5 of them to get the same dosage I usually take in pill form.

I think it's a good idea, but the flavor being outside of the normal child's range, and the dosage being too low for an adult makes these not a lot of use from my perspective. They aren't bad, and if you get enough of them in you, the melatonin seems to work fine.. it just takes lot for an adult, and the flavor isn't something most kids will like.

Best for adults.

I got these to help my kids get to sleep easier on stressful nights. Unfortunately, they do it care for the spicy mint flavor. The 1.5mg of melatonin is the perfect amount, but the artificial sweeteners in these make them not so great for kids. Best for adults.
