Really works but heed the warning on label

I found this sleep aid to be superior to other OTC sleep aids (deep sleep with no hangover) and other brands of melatonin. I was thrilled to find this product. I reordered it after trying another brand. The difference in effectiveness was obvious. But I disregarded the fine print on the label that advises using only for two months and then taking a break. After several months of use, I began to awake with an unpleasant nagging headache. Then last night immediately upon taking a dose, I developed what I call a "sick headache," one accompanied by horrible queasiness that did not abate until this morning, when I had a cup of coffee and took ibuprofen. The Mayo Clinic warns that the side effects of melatonin include headache, nausea, dizziness, and short-term depression, which is also something I have been experiencing lately. Good to be an informed consumer, I have learned once more. Even those things that help us, if taken in excess, can harm us.

A good night’s sleep!

These 5mg Nature’s Bounty melatonin softgels are great! Take one about an hour before bedtime, and then it’s sleepy time. I have been getting full 8 hours of sleep every night, thanks to these softgels.

My favorite Melatonin

I've tried several different brands and doses (3mg, 5mg, 10mg) blends, time release, etc. This Nature's Bounty Melatonin 5mg is by far my favorite. Others either have no effect, or leave me with a hangover. I take this almost nightly, unless I'm already feeling drowsy at bedtime (which is rare). If I'm feeling particularly tired, been under a lot of stress, or simply MUST sleep because of impending workload, some nights I'll take 2 (10mg total) to make sure I have quality 8 hours uninterrupted.

I typically get extremely drowsy within 5 minutes to 15 minutes of taking this. But not SO drowsy that I will fall asleep uncontrollably. I have made the mistake of "fighting" the melatonin (focussing on something interesting, NOT focussing on relaxing and trying to fall asleep) and staying awake past the drowsy period, and that gives me a headache, and makes it harder to fall asleep later.

So I recommend you do not take this until you are IN bed ready to fall asleep. And once the drowsy "window" hits, give in and fall asleep.

Easy to swallow melatonin!

I really like the gelcap version of melatonin the best! My local store no longer carried it- so Amazon came through once again! Good value for the money. Really helps with sleep quality! My 18yo son uses it often when his sleep schedule gets off!

Melatonin is a good product and should not be left in the heat of a mailbox.

Great products natural way to get some sleep!! My husband and I both use it for a supplement that helps us rest better. But somehow it needs to be labeled with "Don't expose to heat"!! Would give it 5 stars but I'm not happy finding it in mailbox. Postal service doesn't know either... Please label in the future, Thanks
